AddiGrace is one of the popular girls in her school. She’s a pretty, smart 11-year-old. And it didn’t take her very long to decide who she was going to invite to her school’s Sadie Hawkins dance.
The quarterback of the football team? The star pitcher? The handsome boy next to her in social studies? No, AddiGrace wanted to surprise Jaydon, a special needs classmate, and ask if he would be her date.
Jaydon has down syndrome, and didn’t know what was up when AddiGrace walked into his class holding a sign.....it read, “Dinosaurs are red, dinosaurs are blue. I need a date, so I chose you.” And then she broke down crying.
Through her sobs, she said, “will you go to the Sadie Hawkins dance with me?” ;-) Jaydon looked up with a grin, and said, “Uh-huh!” The class cheered. AddiGrace and Jaydon hugged.
But why was it so emotional for AddiGrace? Well, this was very personal for her. You see, her little 2-year-old brother, Jaxx, also has Down syndrome, so she holds the genetic disorder very close to her heart. And I just imagine that she can see a little bit of Jaxx, in Jaydon.
That’s the kind of story that hits you right squarely in the feels ;-)
